Very intersting post over on Sam Adam’s blog. It concerns the possibility of moving the Sauvie Island Bridge – which is slated for demolition once the new one is built – to Northwest Portland. They’re trying to decide if the span should be re-used to create a bicycle and pedestrian only bridge across the 405 freeway at NW Flanders Street. Someone even made this cool digital mock-up of how Flanders might look with the bridge in place.

my blue (early 80s) schwinn varsity was stolen off a front porch at about 10 pm last night in north portland.
its a distinctive bike – medium blue w/ the original clear blue handle bar tape (unraveling a bit at one end). the decals are mostly scraped off.
at the time of its departure it had a rear bike rack (with my u lock on it), a velo seat and a yellow bike bell.
please please please contact me if you have any info about my beloved bicycles whereabouts!

Citing “safety” concerns, the Oregon Deparment of Transportation (ODOT) has proposed a ban on bicycles that would make it illegal for cyclists to ride on or next to certain sections of Metro area freeways.
You might have seen the Bike to Blazers Night Ride in the Willamette Week. If not, I’ve scanned it for your viewing pleasure. They even made up a nifty little bike graphic to go with it.
