Five questions with Sunday Parkways manager Linda Ginenthal

Sunday Parkways NE-8

Linda Ginenthal.

Everyone’s getting excited about the Sunday Parkways event coming up in East Portland this weekend. Despite a change to the route due to a repaving project on the Springwater Corridor, it will still be an excellent opportunity to enjoy carfree streets and explore neighborhood parks with thousands of fellow Portlanders.

However, unlike previous Sunday Parkways events that rolled through areas where people on bikes are common, the East Portland edition reaches places where biking — or the infrastructure that goes with it — is not nearly as established. I’m curious how the event will look and feel in a part of our city not known as a cycling haven.

To learn more, I asked PBOT’s Transportation Options Division program manager Linda Ginenthal (she’s the big cheese behind the event) a few questions (emphasis mine):

Missouri county considers biking ban (and why you should care) – UPDATED

Joe Brazil wants bikes banned
from country roads due to safety concerns.

-Watch video below-

When a ban on people riding bicycles went into effect in the small casino town of Black Hawk Colorado last month, it seemed like an anomaly. Many people were outraged by it and advocates are still working to overturn it, but it seemed like just a case of small town politics gone awry. Now, Black Hawk’s city leaders must be feeling a bit of validation after a much larger and more formal ban is being seriously considered by the Council of St. Charles County, Missouri.

Stolen From: Bridgeport Condominium bike stand, off of Marshall, between NW 11th and 12th Aves.
Neighborhood: Pearl District
Owner: Sarah Lebo
OwnerEmail: Slim2m@yahoo.com
Description: Purple cruiser with brown leather covers on the handle bars and a light brown seat. It also had a metal rack in the back.

I bought this 2 days before leaving town, and upon returning saw that it was stolen. The lock was left and was cut. The bike was parked in the middle of my condominium complex, Bridgeport Condos — just off of Marshall between NW 11th and 12th there is a bike rack where 2 other bikes were stored. I rode it home from work on Wednesday, 7-7-10, and last saw it locked to the bike rack around 11pm that night. The next morning I flew to the east Coast so the theft occured sometime between 7-8-10 and 5:30am on 7-12-10 when I tried to get it to ride to work.
