Momentum is North America’s urban cycling culture magazine. Covering a range of topics from arts; food; current events; fashion; gear reviews plus thoughtful analysis of ideas and cultural trends, Momentum is a niche publication for people who ride bikes to get around.

Momentum is published bi-monthly, distributed free in 20 North American cities and available everywhere by subscription. Momentum’s current print run is 60,000 copies and these are divided into 4 different editions – BC, Chicago, San Francisco Bay Area and North America. The goal for 2010 is to add up to 5 more editions in Portland, Seattle, New York, Canada and USA.

Job Description / Assignment:
Work remotely and independently in Portland, reporting to the Advertising Director, to generate new sales leads and close sales for the Portland Regional Edition. The Portland regional edition will be launched for the March/ April edition when Momentum is the proud media sponsor of the Bicycle Show and official producer of the Show Guide. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, highly self-motivated, independent and have a passion (and hopefully a practice) of commuter cycling and will always represent Momentum in a positive and forward-thinking manner.

Responsibilities:

    • Build and maintain relationships with clients and agencies
    • Sell print advertisements in the Portland edition
    • Search out new advertising and sponsorship opportunities in Portland
    • Meet bi-monthly sales target
    • Maintain regular check-in schedule with Advertising Director

Qualifications:
Sales experience. Print advertising sales experience an asset.
Must be outgoing, friendly, self-motivated, deadline-driven and comfortable on the telephone.
People that ride a bike to get around preferred.

Terms:
Part time/ casual.
Starting immediately/ fall. First ad booking deadline is January 26, 2010 in time for Portland Bicycle Show.

Payment:
20% commission on all sales. (5% bonus commission on all year long contracts without any discounting)

Earliest possible date for launch of Portland edition: March/ April issue, 2010.
