Artcrank show finds warm welcome in Portland

The latest evidence of the intersection between bicycles and Portland’s First Thursday art scene (remember the handmade bike show back in August?) was on full display at the debut of the Artcrank Poster Show last night.

29 Portland artists were part of the event and each of them hung one bike-themed poster, all of which were for sale for the reasonable price of $30. Of that $30, $25 went to the artist and $5 went to local non-profit Bikes to Rwanda.

Weekend Event Guide

This year, bike event season seems to only have sped up as the weather has gotten cooler. Tonight’s grand opening of the Artcrank poster show marks the beginning of six weeks of Oregon Manifest. The Manifest’s flagship events are also this weekend, in which 30 framebuilders are competing for judges’ approval and in a 77 mile race. The infamous Cross Crusade series opens on Sunday. As if that isn’t enough, there’s also a full lineup including a bike move, social rides, a wonky talk, and a movie.

A few weeks ago we wrote about a series of educational videos being created by new local org Intersection 911.

The first video urged viewers to stop and help out people who have a flat tire or other mechanical problems.

The second video, released this week, urges viewers to pass on the left, and to exit the bike lane before passing a slower rider. Watch it here (or here for a larger image):
