Thursday, August 13

5:00pm – 7:00pm: Car-free Happy Hour
On the second Thursday of each month, you can head to Roots Brewery (SE 7th just south of Hawthorne) to network with transportation professionals, transit and bike organizers, the carfree-curious, and folks who just like to get around without a car.

7:00pm & 9:00pm: Premiere of Freedom Riders
Join the Northwest Trail Alliance for the first Portland screening Freedom Riders. The movie chronicles how a group of freeriders in Wyoming went from building illegal trails to working with the Forest Service to develop a freeride trail network.

Friday, August 14

3:00pm – 4:30pm: Business on a Bike
A chill, flat, friendly business networking ride. Every Friday; everyone’s welcome. Meets at the Lucky Lab Beerhall (1945 NW Quimby).

7:00pm: Portland’s Best Family Bike Rides
Come to Milagro’s Childrens Boutique on NE 30th at Killingsworth for a presentation by Vince Schreck of Portland Family Adventures. “There will be plenty of advice, directions, pictures and videos to get you motivated to bike with your kids.” Free. No RSVP required.

Saturday, August 15

10:00am: Tour de Fat
Tour de Fat is coming! Waterfront Park near the Burnside Bridge. A day of celebration, mayhem, bikes, costumes, and beer. A star lineup of performers, from Nanda to the Sprockettes. By donation, benefits the BTA and the Northwest Trail Alliance.

9:00am: Bike Camping at Milo McIver

Everyone’s welcome to join Cycle Wild on this leisurely-paced, newbie-accessible overnight bike camping trip to a park east of Portland.

3:00 – 4:30pm: BTA Advocacy Forum
From the BTA: “We are inviting all BTA members to attend an Advocacy Forum on “What really makes roads safe for bicycling?” with other members, staff and board. We would like to get your input as we formulate our advocacy goals and strategies around this question.”

Sunday, August 16

9:00am – 4:00pm: Sunday Parkways – Southeast
The third and final Sunday Parkways of 2009 wends its cheerful way through several Southeast Portland neighborhoods. While you’re out there enjoying the streets, keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for the roving Pleasant Revolution Bicycle Music Festival — an Xtracycle powered and transported band.

Various start times: The Portland Century
An iconic event, featuring 25, 50, and 100 mile options in Portland. Participants are treated to Portland specialties such as coffee, beer, seasonal veggies, and other local goodies.

It’s a bummer that the Portland Century and Sunday Parkways are the same day. I would have liked to do both!
