A golden opportunity for Oregon cycling
Oregon has a golden opportunity to build two new velodromes, to further solidify our reputation as the premier state for cycling participation in the country, and to build lasting links between our elected officials and the one love we all share; bicycles.
All that’s missing is your voice encouraging legislators in Salem to support the Velodrome Bill.
Please support my trip to the National Bike Summit
My thoughts are turning to Washington D.C.
My journey to the National Bike Summit begins Monday night.
Last year the Summit was an amazing experience. I learned how bike advocacy happens at the highest levels of government, I watched (and learned from) real lobbying pros at work, I roamed the halls of Capitol Hill, met with members of Congress, and I even sent back reports and photos for all of you to enjoy and learn from.
A lot has happened in the past year and I’ll attend the Summit with a new set of eyes and much more experience than last year.
Portland State students embark on bicycle history project
A group of Portland State University students are working on a project to document Portland’s bicycle history. The effort is being led by Scott Cohen, a Capstone instructor who teaches courses on bicycles and transportation issues in Portland.
Capstone projects are an undergraduate requirement at PSU where students must work as a group on a project that serves the community.

Velodrome bill update
A bill that would allocate $3.5 million in state lottery funds to the construction of two new velodromes in Oregon is kicking into high gear.
Republican Senator Jason Atkinson is holding a round table strategy discussion today at the capitol building in Salem. Invited to the table are a diverse list of movers and shakers from all over Oregon. The goal is to coordinate efforts to build a broad front of support for the bill.

New event kicks off mountain bike racing season
Tom Hoffman and Kris Schamp (the man behind the Mountain Bike Short Track series and the Kruger’s Crossing cyclocross race) are kicking off the mountain bike racing season with Horning’s Hustle.
The race is scheduled for March 25th and will take place at Horning’s Hideout, a private ranch out near North Plains in Washington County and the location of a Cross Crusade cyclocross race last fall.
The course offers forested single track and is only a 35 minute drive from Portland (carpools recommended).

Bikes left out of fuel reduction article
For some reason, an Oregonian article published today about a Portland City Council resolution calling for 50% cut in fuel consumption by 2030 makes no mention of bicycles.
