Bunnies on bikes, an Easter tradition

Bunny on a Bike Ride

Voodoo Donuts awaited
us at the rest stop.

Despite rainy skies, well over 100 bicycling bunnies joined the fourth annual Bunny on a Bike Ride yesterday. Head bunny Carye Bye and her trusty crew of volunteers led us on a circuitous route through northeast and southeast Portland.

Highlights of the route included a spin through Laurelhurst Park and a mid-ride stop for donuts, rhubarb pie, and tea at the Hawthorne Hostel.

As always, the response from passersby was priceless. They gawked, smiled, and waved at all the Easter-inspired outfits and bunny ears of every imaginable type.

In the Maus house, this ride has become a family tradition. Eleni and I have done it three years in a row, and this time Danica, Juli, and my mom (she’s visiting from California) joined us.

Danica had a great time.

Kelly Peach, Lauren Pedersen

Everyone was in great spirits, especially the trio of Nickey Robare (aka Agent Bunny G), Lauren Pederson (aka Agent Lapis), and Kelly Peach. Dressed in their Sunday best, the three friends treated us to a nice little Easter song.

Not sure if it was the result of too much Easter candy, or the entertainer spirit in Nickey and Lauren (they’re both Sprockettes), but I just happened to have my recorder handy, so here’s a little clip:

Big thanks to Carye Bye for making this ride a such a fun Portland tradition.

the world needs more bunnies on bikes!

is this the only time that the bunnies convene or will us bunnie-wanna-bes have to wait for next year to enjoy bunny-fun?

Thanks to all who showed up and volunteered on the year’s Bunny on a Bike Ride! One count was about 150 Bunnies on Bikes!

And to answer barbaroo’s comment, the world does need more bunnies on bikes. If you are in the mood, ride with ears.

Thanks Jonathan for a very nice write up and taking some great photos. You’re now a 3rd year veteran of the ride. Congrats!
