6/20: Hello readers and friends. I am having my second (of two) total knee replacement surgeries today so I'll be out of commission for a bit while I recover. Please be patient while I get back to full health. I hope to be back to posting as soon as I can. I look forward to getting back out there. 🙏. - Jonathan Maus, BikePortland Publisher and Editor

Yesterday in North Plains, 700+ cyclocrossers enjoyed perfect weather at the third stop on the Cross Crusade. A very challenging course offered little respite to racers for burning legs and lungs.
Unfortunately the usually festive atmosphere was hampered by a serious crash that sent one rider to the hospital via helicopter. No update yet on his condition Here’s an update on his condition. I’m not sure where exactly he went down, but I can vouch for the tricky, narrow and serpentine singletrack that might have caused it.
But despite the challenging terrain, I think most racers would agree that the toughest part of the course wasn’t the downhill. The copious amounts of climbing, especially the one really long and steep run-up (that was taken out after the post-crash course revision), had everyone gasping for breath.

OK folks, you should know the drill by now…
We just had one of the most perfect-for-biking, Indian summer weekends ever. How about sharing your adventures with us?
I was very sad to miss Slug Velo’s annual Fall Colors Ride. I went last year and loved it. Can anyone give us a report on how it went? I’d love to hear about it.
If you had fun on your bike this weekend, feel free to share your experiences in the comments.
Thanks.

The Zoobomb Pyle—which Zoobombers call the “People’s Bike Library of Greater Portland”—is much more than a bunch of mini-bikes, it’s an icon that symbolizes one of Portland’s proud traditions.
It’s also an important part of the weekly ride that zooms from the Zoo into downtown. The bikes in the Pyle are loaners which Zoobomb maintains for first-timers and others that show up without a bike.
The library system works well, and there’s even an official librarian. That post is currently held by Handsome Dave, who collects $5 and an ID from anyone who uses a “Pyle bike.”

The story I posted Tuesday about former Starbucks employee Fabian Mills and the alleged anti-bike comments made by his manager Frances Ericson, has quickly spread around the web.
Forums and blogs from around the country (and even Japan) have picked up the story and despite the fact that I only reported Mills’ side of the events, most of the sentiment has been less than favorable to Starbucks.
