The Portland City Council unanimously passed a resolution today making the bicycle industry a recognized and targeted part of our economy.
Mia Birk, principal at Alta Planning and Design (and former Bike Program manager for PDOT) presented her firm’s recent research to Mayor Potter and Commissioners Adams, Leonard, Sten and Saltzman.

I had a yellow 21-speed mountain bike stolen from a bike rack at SW 5th and Morrison downtown July 4th (my birthday) between 11:45 am and 1:30 pm.

My new Trek 7.5 fx disc brake – 22.5″ bike was stolen out of my garage in NE Pdx on the morning of July 4 by someone who left a crappy old silver gary fisher wahoo mountain bike in its place. The stolen bike is black, has a trek ride along hitch mounted on the seat post, a cable chain attached to the saddle, and a wireless trip computer.

My bike was stolen from in front of my apartment on ne 16th and sandy. I was in a hurry and didn’t put the u-lock on the rack, just through the wheel. I looped my cable around the rack, but it was cut. The u-lock should still be on the back wheel. It’s a kryponite, as was the cable.
The bike has been customized with disc brakes front and back, has nine back gears, says it has three on the front (really has two) and has a serfa seat. Has mounts for lights on the front and back. Also has fenders front and back, the back fender has a ratty reflector on it. I have the Serial# and owners info. I just got home from vacation (been gone since Saturday) and on my way into town I noticed fresh paint on an old building at the corner of Killingsworth and Vancouver.
Upon further inspection I noticed this sign in the window, “Coming Soon: Cycling Center”
Turns out the owner is Ben Bartlett, a 50 year-old retiree who lives down the street. He decided to open the Cycling Center because he noticed many older riders’ needs weren’t being addressed at existing shops.
