Man severely hurt by collision with garbage truck on SE McLoughlin (updated)

A man riding across a McLoughlin Boulevard crosswalk on his bike was “traumatically injured” Friday morning when a man in a garbage truck turned left on a green light and the two collided in the middle of the crosswalk, two witnesses said.

Police didn’t released the injured man’s name Friday, or any details of their own investigation.

Both the man in the truck and the man on the bike had been southbound on Southeast 17th Avenue at about 11 a.m. as they approached the intersection, witness Jason Lee said. The truck was making a left turn onto McLoughlin.

Lee, who spends most of the day on his feet as general manager for K&J Express Wash on the southeast corner, said the injured man was in his 20s and was not wearing a helmet when the flat-fronted garbage truck hit him on his right as it turned left across the crosswalk. The man’s head struck the windshield of the truck, which was moving at about 15 miles per hour, Lee estimated.

The Disaster Relief Trials was first held last year at Velo Cult Bike Shop in Hollywood and since then the event has ridden a wave of interest, gotten attention from local, regional, and even national agencies, and has spawned imitators in Vancouver (BC), Seattle, Eugene, and other cities.

Two people injured in collision on NE Killingsworth at 28th – UPDATED

One man and one woman were hospitalized Friday morning after he turned his bicycle left onto Northeast Killingsworth “without coming to a complete stop,” Portland police said.

Steven Odell, 47, was treated for “serious but not life-threatening injuries” after the 8:15 a.m. crash, police said. According to their interviews and investigation, Odell was pedaling southbound on Northeast 28th Avenue (not Northeast 29th, as originally thought) when he made the left turn.

Tasha Brown, 34, was driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass west on Killingsworth “and had the right-of-way when the collision occurred,” police said. She was also transported to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries.”

No citations have been issued yet, and the police investigation continues.

A third-party event vendor whose workers illegally parked their truck in the middle of a nearby bike lane has lost its relationship with a prominent Portland hotel.

Workers for the vendor had asked permission to park in the lane during an event at the Doubletree hotel in the Lloyd District and had been told to instead use the hotel’s large driveway or underground loading area, according to Doubletree’s manager Terry Goldman.

Then the workers apparently parked there anyway, and were caught in the act by a woman riding her bike on Multnomah Street’s separated bike lane.

Description: It is a Blue Raleigh M-60 Mountain Bike. It has Shimano Brake pads. I recently purchased a Cateye Uno HL-EL010 light for it and the mounting bracket was still on the bike when it got stolen.
It has 21 Speeds bike. The seat is slightly bent. The bike doesn’t have any reflectors (the back reflector mount still there but broken).
I bought it from craigslist on June 9th.

Westside transportation pro will lead new Washington Park access group

The director of one of the region’s older transportation nonprofits is moving to one of the region’s newest.

Heather McCarey announced Wednesday that she’ll be leaving the Westside Transportation Alliance to become executive director of the newly formed Washington Park Transportation Management Association, which will focus on improving bike, transit and carpool travel options to Washington Park.

Both organizations are chartered by local governments to reduce auto travel by making it easier for people to reach their destinations by walking, biking, or taking public transportation.

The Westside TMA seeks to improve non-auto travel options throughout Washington County and is funded by a federally funded grant administered by Metro and voluntary dues from Washington County employers. The new Washington Park TMA will be funded by a similar Metro grant plus auto parking fees from people who bring autos to visit the park and its tenants: the Oregon Zoo, World Forestry Center, Portland Children’s Museum, Portland Japanese Garden and Hoyt Arboretum.
