Police spent $20,000 on Critical Mass in ’06

The Portland Police Bureau released their Annual Traffic Activity Summary yesterday. The report details all the traffic violations and expenditures for 2006.

Among the stats was a page devoted to “Non-permitted Protest, Demonstration, Critical Mass”. It’s important to note not only how they categorize their presence at Critical Mass, but the amount of officers and cost to the city.

River City Bicycles gets Greenie Award

Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) reports that local retailer River City Bicycles has won the first-ever Greenie Award. The award was created by Specialized Bicycles as a way to, “acknowledge its retailers’ green-minded efforts and to motivate the public to reduce its global footprint.”

According to the story in BRAIN, River City won the award because of their,

“eco-conscious campaign to promote bicycling as a solution to climate change.”

Next week, we have an opportunity to show the Mayor that the Bicycle Master Plan Update is much more than just another planning process.

On Tuesday (5/1), City Bike Coordinator Roger Geller will lead the fourth in his series of Bicycle Master Plan Rides.

Geller has said that by this Summer, he hopes to have 1,000 people join him. Let’s help him reach that goal by next week. Do you think we can do it?
