Local bike builder Tony Pereira is having a dream year.

Last winter he found a great new shop space near SE 24th and Belmont and in March he took home coveted trophies from the North American Handmade Bike Show for his gorgeous,”Roaring 29’er”, fillet-brazed, mountain bike.

A relative newcomer to Portland’s heralded framebuilding scene, Pereira has quickly established himself as one of the top builders in the country.

And now, things will get even better for the self-taught builder from Salt Lake City Utah Simsbury, Connecticut. He’s the subject of a “Gear Heroes” feature and the “Eye Candy” section in the August issue of Mountain Bike Magazine (which its publisher says is the #1 mountain bike mag in the nation based on a circulation of 155,000).

The mag features a short interview with Tony and hand-painted portrait by Michael Gamstetter on one page, and a shot of Tony and his now-famous mountain bike on the other.

It’s great to see another local builder doing so well (stay tuned for an update on Ira Ryan’s booming business).

Congrats Tony! I hope the phone is ringing off the hook.
