The Hollywood Bike Gallery store will host a preview party to welcome the newest addition to Portland’s growing cargo and utility-bike family — the Madsen Cycles Urban Utility Bicycle.
My first mention of the Madsen back in September sparked quite a bit of interest. Unlike the Dutch-style cargo bikes that have become popular in Portland, the Madsen places its cargo area at the rear of the bicycle using a plastic bin that straddles a 20-inch wheel.
Madsen Bicycles owner Jared Madsen will be at the Bike Gallery event to share more about his bike and answer your questions.
I’ll be riding a Madsen home from the event and I’m looking forward to seeing how it compares as a hauler and kid-carrier to other bikes I’ve tried recently (like the Yuba Mundo, the Metrofiets, and others).
