The Meyer Memorial Trust, created by the late retail magnate Fred Meyer, announced their latest grant recipients on Friday.
Among them is the Beaverton-based has Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition (WashCoBTC). The group has been awarded $7,500 for “strategic planning and board development.”
Originally formed as a chapter of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA), the group became an independent entity in 2005.
The WashCo BTC has been busy lately. They’ve been working with State Representative Jerry Krummel and the family of the late Eric Kautzky to pass “Eric’s Law”, a bill that would give bereaved families an opportunity to erect a memorial sign at the site of fatal crashes. Washington County has had six fatal bicycle crashes since 2005.
The group’s Chair Hal Ballard also recently coordinated the Westside Ride of Silence.
