Last October, the cities of Portland and Milwaukie came together to dedicate the Three Bridges on the Springwater and Milwaukie Mayor James Bernard quipped, “we’re proud to have Portland as our suburb.”
Now, if you live and ride in Milwaukie, you have a chance to come together and make it more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
Milwaukie is in the midst of their Transportation System Plan update and there are two major opportunities for bicycle-specific, public input.
“Over the past ten years, projects have been implemented, the community has grown, and transportation needs have changed. The City will use your input to update the Plan and set new priorities based on growth projections to the year 2035.”
The first is an online survey. Their website says the deadline for it has passed, but it’s still accessible and I’m sure they will appreciate the input.
The other opportunity for feedback are two public workshops focused on pedestrian and bicycle issues. The first one is tomorrow (3/24) from 10:00am to noon at Milwaukie City Hall (2nd Floor, 10722 SE Main Street).
The goals of these workshops are to:
- Share personal experience with pedestrian and bicycle routes in Milwaukie.
- Clearly identify problems with the existing pedestrian and bicycle networks and note the things that work well.
- Brainstorm solutions for the problems identified.
