Weekend Event Guide: Surly Day, Harvest Century, Sunday Parkways, and more

Harvest Century (Sunday): Choose from four routes and enjoy superb support and breathtaking roads on the last big organized ride of the season.

It’s time to get your weekend plans in order.

Friday is unofficially Climate Day in Portland. The big strike and rally starts at 10:30 in front of City Hall and I hope to see a lot of BikePortlanders in the crowd.

And despite rumors about summer being over, it looks like we should have plenty of sunshine. Check our selections below and make it a great weekend…

Friday, September 20th

Park(ing) Day – All day in a street near you
If you’re downtown today, give yourself a bit of time to lounge and enjoy our public right-of-way that’s typically used as car storage. See some of the participating locations on this handy map. More info here.

Climate Strike – 10:30 am at Portland City Hall (SW)
This is a global strike organized by young people who are demanding bold action to stop climate change. Speeches and rally outside City Hall followed by a march across the Hawthorne Bridge to activities and more demonstrations near OMSI. More info here.

Saturday, September 21st

Crater Lake Carfree Ride – All day at Crater Lake National Park
This is your last chance to ride a section of the Crater Lake rim without the motorized menace to worry about. More info here.

Gran Priz Luciano Bailey #4 Ninkrossi – 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at Washougal MX Park (WA)
Fourth stop for the GPLB is gonna be a great one. Legendary course promises thrills (and probably a few spills) for all. More info here.

Fall Bike Sale – 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at River City Bicycles (SE)
RCB is having a big sale and will offer new bikes and rigs from their demo fleet at big discounts. Have a browse at both their flagship and outlet stores all weekend long. More info here.

Intergalactic Surly Day – 6:00 pm at Modern Times Belmont Fermentorium (SE)
Beloved bike brand Surly is in town and they’re throwing a party to celebrate their birthday and toast local dealers and fans. Expect prize giveaways and loads of lovely people. Coming from north or northeast? Roll to the party in a group leaving from Cat Six Cycles on NE 42nd at 5:30. More info here.

Sunday, September 22nd

***BP PICK!!!*** Harvest Century – All day in Washington County
The last major organized ride of the season promises exceptional support and an event that supports a great cause (Community Vision). The routes in an around Forest Grove on the eastern foothills of the Pacific Coast Range will leave you awestruck and breathless! More info here.

Sunday Parkways Northeast – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
The final open streets event of the year is your chance to enjoy carfree streets and good old-fashioned neighborhood camaraderie like it was meant to be experienced. Discover new parks, great food, and a connection to your city you never knew you had. More info here.

PDX Tracklocross – 12:00 pm at Fernhill Park (NE)
Bring your fixie and get ready to have fun in this unsanctioned, off-road extravaganza. Come for the racing and hijinks, stay for the prizes. More info here.
