Can you believe it? The sun is due to shine bright just in time to kickoff the Big Sunday Parkways Season.

We hope you’re ready for the crazy summer riding season because it’s coming hot and fast. We’re just a few weeks out from the start of Pedalpalooza (which is the entire month of June this year). Speaking of which, one local bike fun organizer will be out of town in June so she decided to do her ride tonight! Don your onesie or best bodysuit and join in.

Without further delay, here’s our menu of rides and events sure to bring a smile on this sunny weekend…

Friday, May 19th

No-Drop Road Ride – 7:00 pm at Western Bikeworks (1015 NW 17th)
Join this weekly group ride aimed at intermediate riders and led by Western Bikeworks staff. Expect a 15-mile (or so) ride at a conversational pace. More info here.

Onesie Ride – 7:45 pm at Holladay Park (NE Multnomah and 11th)
Pedalpalooza pre-funk! Grab a onesie, or the closest thing you’ve got to one (animal suits and leotards also accepted). Prizes for best outfits and the ride ends at a dance party. More info here.

Saturday, May 20th

The Weekend Event Guide is sponsored by Abus Bike Locks. Thanks Abus!

Trail Work Day at Stub Stewart – 8:30 am to 2:00 pm at Stub Stewart State Park

Sunday, May 21st

Sunday Parkways – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm in southeast Portland
It’s the kickoff of the Sunday Parkways season, and the forecast could not be better! Come out on bikes, feet, scooters, strollers, or whatever you love and enjoy a 7-mile carfree loop that will take you through neighborhoods and parks. Expect lots of free activities, entertainment and food (not free). More info here.

Devinci Demo Day – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Sandy Ridge Trailhead
River City Bicycles will have the entire fleet of mountain bikes from Cycles Devinci for you to test ride. This is a great chance to learn about these great bikes before you buy and ask the smart shop staff all your burning questions. First-come, first-served. Don’t forget to bring your own pedals. More info here.

Pedalpalooza Pennant Making Party – 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at Nancy’s Studio (2738 SE 15th)
The bike fun doesn’t just happen by magic. Well, ok, some of it does. But much of it happens because people show up to help. If you want to be part of this year’s Pedalpalooza magic, come help Shift devotees print the cool pennants that will adorn all the funnest bikes in the pack once the big event kicks off next month. More info here.

Oregon Grand Fondo – 8:00 am in Cottage Grove (130 miles south of Portland)
Choose from a 117 or 71-mile loop for this celebration of cycling on some of Oregon’s finest country roads. The gran fondo tradition is strong in Italy and France and is steeped in cycling lore. It’s a way to ride a pro-level route in the presence of pros and elite riders while enjoying top-level support along the way. Registration includes a meal, a massage (just like the pros!), and more. More info here.
