BikePortland Podcast: A dead freeway, new leaders at PBOT and stoplight behavior

In May, Jonathan and I announced that BikePortland and Portland Afoot were joining forces to make our news coverage even better. I’m pleased to say that things are going great — the two of us are building a team that’s going to help this site cover bikes better than ever, while also introducing other products that will serve low-car Portlanders of all sorts.

Today we’re starting experiments with one of those: an audio channel.

Most months for the last two years, local audio producer, bike lover and transit geek Lillian Karabaic has sat down with me and various guests for a commuting podcast that we always take care to make shorter than the time it takes the average Portlander to get to work.

Now, Lily and I are excited to welcome Jonathan to that team. The three of us have a lot of ideas about ways a podcast about biking, walking and low-car life can serve Portlanders, and we’re eager to start testing them. For the moment, though, Jonathan’s first regular podcast with us is a lot like the normal Portland Afoot podcast: three pieces of news, a commuting tip, a few laughs and an uncannily topical song about transportation (this month: They’re Going to Build a Motorway by the great Leon Rosselson).

We’re excited about the potential of a BikePortland/Afoot podcast. It’s future format is still up in the air and we’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions on how to make it even more useful and entertaining. Thanks for listening!
