Sunday Parkways is now in its sixth year. What started on this week in 2008 as a crazy idea imported from Bogota, is now firmly ensconced as a local institution that’s above politics or yearly budgetary wrangling. But with age and permanence, I hope it hasn’t lost its novelty. I also think there’s a tendency for some folks to take it for granted. Hopefully that’s not the case, but if you needed some additional prodding to get out there on Sunday, I thought I’d share a few photos to remind you how awesome it is.
Besides these photos, you’ll be inspired to know that PBOT has organized a bunch of fun activities, live music, and good food at Woodlawn, Alberta, and Fernhill parks, as well as Rigler School. You can see the map and learn more about the event on PBOT’s website.
It’s an event you don’t want to miss, because you never know what you’ll see…
Like Ted from Bike Temple spraying people with a hose…
Or all the wild and wacky bikes…
Or the things in the ‘hood you might have never noticed…
Or an impromptu concert…
Or a basic lesson in transportation and the environment…
Or lessons on how to carry people on two wheels (or four)…
Or all the smiling volunteers — some of whom will even juggle for you!
And it all happens no matter what the weather dishes out…
Have fun!
