If I had a picture of Uncle Sam riding a bicycle while pointing a finger in that iconic “I Want You” sort of way, I would put it here. Instead I’ll simply tell you about a chance to make the place we live a little better.
Washington County (which encompasses Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tigard and many other cities) is forming a Citizen Advisory Committee to help update its Transportation System Plan. The County’s goal is to have a committee “composed of citizens from different geographic subareas of the County and representatives of a range of interest groups” who will review changes to the transportation plan that impact “all modes of transportation – motor vehicle, transit, bicycle and pedestrian.”
The deadline for applications came and went once, but the County is truly committed to having all areas and interests represented so they’ve extended the deadline out to this Friday, October 14th.
Dyami Valentine, from the Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation, explained via email that they’re hoping to get more representatives from “the western (Cornelius, Forest Grove, Banks, North Plains, Gaston, Timber, Helvetia), southern (Tualatin, Sherwood, Wilsonville) and rural parts of the county.”
If you want to help make Washington County a safer, more pleasant place to live (and especially if you live in one of the cities mentioned by Valentine) you should head over to the Washington County Transportation Plan website and fill out an application before Friday.
