Tons of volunteer opportunities this weekend to help maintain and build a fabulous bike scene whether your preference is mountain, track or just tootling around dressed like a bunny rabbit.
Enjoy the weekend!
Saturday, April 23rd
- 9:00am – 1:00pm: Stub Stewart Trail Fest work party
Join the Northwest Trail Alliance to maintain and develop the trail system at Stub Stewart State Park. Bring your bike! No experience necessary. Some food provided so sign up in advance over at NWTA. This is one of the most important things you can do to improve mountain biking in the region!
9:00am – 12:00noon: Earth Day tree planting along I-205 Multi Use Path
Meet up with Friends of Trees, State Attorney General Kroger, Metro President Hughes, Cantel Sweeping, members of East Portland Action Plan and other community volunteers at SE Salmon and 94th Ave to finish off the tree planting plan for this sweet 16+ mile pathway connecting the Columbia River to Gladstone.
10:00 – 3:00pm: NWTA Swap meet
Can’t make it out for trail maintenance but still want to support the Northwest Trail Alliance’s mission while scoring the spare part you’ve been meaning to acquire? This must be the place.
Head for the east end of the Fremont Bridge to 1300 N. River St.. If you want to sell stuff you’ve accumulated, register in advance for a 10×10 plot. Entry is $5 from 10-1 and $2 from 1-3. All proceeds go to NWTA.
3:00 – 5:00pm: Womens Track Clinic
If the weather forecast is to be believed _(cough!)_ Saturday afternoon will be sporting ideal conditions for ideal sport conditioning. If you ever wondered what track riding is like, this is a great opportunity for beginners to give it a go in a non testosterone fueled setting with experienced female track riders. Bring a helmet, shoes and pedals. Bikes available if you need but arrive at 2:30 to claim one. Cost is a measly ten bucks. Fair warning: This is a total hoot and you may just find yourself at Alpenrose on a weekly basis all summer. Location is Alpenrose Velodrome – 6149 SW Shattuck.

The Velodrome needs your lovin’ and you need some Chris King specialty pancakes. Get yourself over to 6149 SW Shattuck and prepare one of Portland’s cycling cornerstones (sans corners) for another season of awesomeness.
2:00 – 4:00pm: 8th Annual Bunny on a Bike Ride
