Have some great news to share…

Remember our Get Together events? We launched them back in February 2009 with our first event in St. Johns. After that, we kept them going through August. We visited neighborhoods throughout the metro area — from Tigard to Milwaukie, Powellhurst to Alberta. At each event we met face-to-face with people who live, work, and ride in those areas. We heard about their issues, we shared ideas, and we helped people make connections to further their activism, their businesses, or just their social life.

I’ve always loved the Get Togethers; but unfortunately, given the limited capacity we have here at BikePortland (both financial and human), I decided to put the events on hiatus.

Now, we’ve just inked a deal with bike accessory company SKS to bring them back!

You know SKS, they’re the Germany-based company well-known (especially in Portland) for their fenders (but they make lots of other other cool stuff).

We met Mark Burgener, General Manager of SKS USA, at Interbike and found out he’s a big BikePortland fan. When he said he’d like to get involved and help us do more informing and inspiring, we thought the Get Togethers would be a perfect fit. Mark agreed.

“The Get Togethers are grass roots at its most basic level — talking and hanging out with riders. Portland is a great city with amazing shops that support SKS… If only it would rain a little more. That would be awesome!”

We’re excited. With the help of SKS, we might be coming to your neighborhood in 2011. Stay tuned for more details.
