The City of Vancouver might have eliminated their bike program (they’ve also dissolved their transportation department as well), but it takes more than budget cuts to keep grassroots bike activism down.
Non-profit group Bike Me! Vancouver, the Fort Vancouver National Trust, and the City of Vancouver have partnered up to provide bike parking at the annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks show this Sunday at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
The parking corral will be located at the southwest corner of Evergreen Blvd and Fort Vancouver Way near the traffic circle. This free parking service will be available from noon through the end of the fireworks (remember to bring a lock).
Bike Me! Vancouver has helped set up similar bike parking corrals at the summer concert series and other events in Esther Short Park. They’ll have volunteers on hand to pass out bike maps, reflective sticker sets, and to answer questions about biking in Vancouver.
Sounds like a great way to enjoy a bike ride, show some appreciation for hard-working advocates, and take in one of the best firework displays in the Northwest.
