2010 is set to be another banner year for the Portland State University Cycling Club.

In 2008, team member Anita Dilles represented PSU at the Collegiate Track Nationals and in 2009, Amelia Bjesse-Puffin made two appearances on the podium. These successes on the track, along with their involvement off the race course, has earned them “Collegiate Cycling Club of the Month” honors this month from USA Cycling.

Far from just a hardcore racing team, the PSU Cycling club welcomes riders of all ages and abilities. Last year they pushed the Northwest Collegiate Cycling Conference (NWCCC) to add a competitive handcycling category!

Team member Peter Welte says the team is psyched for the upcoming 2010 season and he expects their road team to be at the top of the conference standings this year. The NWCCC road season runs seven weekends from March 13th to April 25th and Road Nationals are in May. Welte says PSU’s new Student Rec Center has become a favorite hangout for workouts.

“We have weekly Wednesday night workout sessions on the new spin bikes; the sessions are followed with relaxing and socializing in the hot tub… and sometimes a few laps in the pool for those of us not too worn down from the spinning!”

Welte adds that they’re always on the lookout for new club members. If you’re a PSU student and want to get involved with a fun and inclusive bike team, show up for one of their Saturday club rides or drop a line to team president Adrian Richardson at wakeupadrian[at]gmail[dot]com.
