The first of three Sunday Parkways events is right around the corner and the City of Portland is looking for a few good “Intersection Superheroes” to make sure everything goes smoothly.
At the North Portland event on June 21st the City will open up 7.5 miles of streets for the community to enjoy. The route — A 3.2-mile loop through Kenton and Arbor Lodge neighborhoods and a 4.5-mile loop connecting Arbor Lodge and Piedmont neighborhoods — will be completely carfree from 9am to 4 pm.
I live in the Piedmont neighborhood so I received the event flyer in the mail the other day. I counted over 80 different community booths, performers, food vendors, and activities listed.
As you can imagine, an event of this scope takes a lot of volunteers. I heard from one of the organizers yesterday that they City still needs folks to step up and help out. In particular they are looking for “Intersection Superheroes” that will help orchestrate traffic and keep everyone happily moving along.

PBOT also still needs donations to help meet their budget goals. Yesterday I scored one of the brand new Sunday Parkways bandannas (in photo above). You can get one too if you sign up to volunteer or if you give $40 or more to the cause.
