Multnomah County is working on a project to re-design Scholls Ferry Road. This Thursday (4/9), they’re holding the second of two public meetings where you can check out and weigh in on proposed design configurations.

The official press release is below:

Open house for Scholls Ferry Road streetscape design plan

The second of two public meetings for the Scholls Ferry Road streetscape design plan will be held on Thursday, April 9th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the East Sylvan Middle School Gym at 1849 SW 58th Ave., Portland (one block west of SW Skyline Blvd). There will be a short presentation on the project at 6:30 pm.

Multnomah County is sponsoring a planning project to conceptually design bicycle and pedestrian facilities through the Scholls Ferry Road corridor from Sunset Highway to the Washington County line. This plan will identify ways to improve bicycle and pedestrian travel through the corridor, which is constrained by steep slopes. It will explore widening the road and constructing bike lanes and sidewalks, and an alternative of providing bike and/or pedestrian facilities on a parallel street network within the corridor. The planning effort will result in a concept-level facilities design, including associated stormwater treatment, which will be the basis for future project engineering.

The consulting firm Parametrix is assisting the county with the engineering and technical analyses for the plan. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) including representatives of local jurisdictions, the consultant team, and user groups has been formed to advise the county on this plan.

Two public meetings will provide the community opportunities to review technical information, design alternatives, and recommend a conceptual design. The first meeting was in January. Ultimately, the design plan will be adopted by the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

Public participation is a critical part of the planning process. Citizen input will help the project team develop a plan that improves multi-modal connectivity along Scholls Ferry Road.
