Southeast Portland based bicycle and pedestrian planning firm, Alta Planning + Design, will be the subject of an upcoming episode of Big Ideas for a Small Planet, a documentary series which airs on The Sundance Channel.
The show is part of Sundance Channel’s new “programming destination dedicated entirely to the environment,” known as The Green.
According to The Green’s press statement, the Big Ideas series presents, “forward-thinking designers, products and processes that are at the forefront of a new green world. Each episode revolves around a different green themes as it spotlights three specific innovators or innovations that have the potential to transform our everyday lives.”
Alta has offices around the country, and is headed up locally by former City of Portland bicycle coordinator Mia Birk. Birk remains heavily involved with PDOT as a project consultant and has 14 engineers and planners on her staff. Birk is known around the country as an expert on bike-friendly transportation planning. Later this week she’ll present a talk on bicycle boulevards at a conference in Minneapolis.
The theme of the show Alta is featured on is “Transport” and will air on May 27 at 9pm on the Sundance Channel.
A special, invite-only screening and reception will happen this Sunday in Portland.
