Andy Newlands, the man behind the recently founded Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association has announced the first annual Oregon Handmade Bike Show.
The event will be invitation-only and is set for November 10, 2007 and it will be held at the Multnomah Athletic Club in the Goose Hollow area of southwest Portland. Newlands says he pitched the idea to the MAC’s Cycling Committee and it was, “well received”. He hopes to get framebuilders from around the state to exhibit their work at the show.
Oregon is home to many of the country’s finest small, independent, craftsman bike builders including:
- Co-Motion Cycles (Eugene)
- Land Shark Bicycles (Medford)
- Vanilla Bicycles (Portland)
- DeSalvo Cycles (Ashland)
- And many others…
I’m very interested to see how this event shapes up.
Last July I organized the Made in Portland Bicycle Show and Art Exhibition. It was held in City Hall and drew a large and enthusiastic crowd eager to see and learn more from our excellent crop of local bike builders.
And don’t forget that the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) is coming to Portland in February 2008.
Oregon builders made a big impression at this year’s NAHBS in San Jose. Our state had ten builders at the show (second only to California) and took home four awards.
No word yet from Newlands on the confirmed exhibitor list, but I’ll keep you posted.
