Tom Hoffman and Kris Schamp (the man behind the Mountain Bike Short Track series and the Kruger’s Crossing cyclocross race) are kicking off the mountain bike racing season with Horning’s Hustle.

The race is scheduled for March 25th and will take place at Horning’s Hideout, a private ranch out near North Plains in Washington County and the location of a Cross Crusade cyclocross race last fall.

The course offers forested single track and is only a 35 minute drive from Portland (carpools recommended).

Schamp, whose day job is Marketing Director at the Bike Gallery, hopes the event will attract beginners and veterans alike

“Our hope is to attract a lot of new people who have never raced before. The course and race format are pretty well suited for these type of folks.”

The course will feature multiple 20-30 minute laps on a 4 mile loop with lots of ups and downs over fire roads, grassy pastures, some singletrack, and more.

Schamp says there’s overnight camping available, and he hopes to have live music, hot drinks and food, a bonfire, and a plentiful prize raffle.

Sounds like the perfect way to kick off the mountain bike season!
