Maria Rubia from the Mayor Potter’s office has requested a white paper from local bike advocate and lawyer Mark Ginsberg and Commissioner Sam Adams’ staffer Roland Chlapowski.
The report is meant to detail “currently outstanding issues” with Critical Mass. The report should be completed in the next few weeks.
Mark Ginsberg has been a tireless advocate for Critical Mass for many years and he currently hosts monthly meetings between the Portland Police Bureau traffic division and Mass representatives at his office overlooking Pioneer Courthouse Square. Roland Chlapowski is relatively new to local bike issues, but is very smart and has been very visible and engaged with the process for several months.
Some of the issues I assume they’ll report on are the viability of corking, necessity of police presence, presence of motorized vehicles(there is a feeling that cyclists would tolerate police presence without patrol cars or motorcycles), use of lanes during the ride, pros/cons of permitted vs. unpermitted rides, and so on.
