Weekend Event Guide: Joyride, Sprockettes, Grilled by Bike, and more!


Pedalpalooza is here and the calendar is chock-full of new ways to have fun on a bike. Whether you love superheroes, the Sprockettes, or bahn mi and bubble tea, you’re sure to find something on this weekend’s menu that suits your tastes.

Our featured events this week are Cycle Oregon’s Joyride and the Clever Cycles 10th anniversary party.

40-Mile Loop Bike Ride, Part 1 of 3 – 1:00 pm at OMSI MAX Station
This is the first of three rides that will explore the complete, 51-mile loop (it’s longer than its founders envisioned). More info here.

Umbrella Projects Ride – 5:30 pm at Tilikum Crossing Bridge (west side, under red balloons)
Umbrella is the usually behind-the-scenes org that acts as the nonprofit fiscal sponsor of many of our beloved rides, events and orgs. Umbrella is behind Pedalpalooza, the World Naked Bike Ride, Breakfast on the Bridges, and much more. They don’t make the fun, they make the fun possible! Come learn about how Umbrella can help you and experience some of the magic they’ve made possible. More info here.

Sprockettes Pedalpalooza Ride – 6:30 pm at Colonel Summers Park (1801 SE Taylor)
Come meet, ride, and dance with Portland’s original all-women mini-bike dance team. Expect a short ride and a live Sprockettes performance! More info here.

Superheroes! Ride – 7:30 pm at Colonel Summers Park (1801 SE Taylor)
Grab your capes and masks — or superhero jammies — on this fight for truth and justice against evil supervillains. More info here.

Midnight Mystery Ride
A Portland tradition unlike any other. Meet at midnight, and follow your leader into the abyss of fun, friends, and great memories. More info here.

Saturday, June 10th

*FEATURED* – Joyride (by Cycle Oregon) – All day at Stoller Family Estate (16161 NE McDougall Rd in Dayton, OR)
Take a break from the city and escape to the bucolic wine country of the Willamette Valley while riding with great people and sampling fine wine and food. Routes vary from 17 to 60 miles and the ride is open only to women. Live entertainment and gourmet feast at the after-party. More info here.

Bahn Mi Bubble Tea Bicycle Bonanza – 11:30 am at Lardo (1212 SE Hawthorne)
Come on this ride if you want to explore some of Portland’s best neighborhoods and food. Your leaders will guide you to a variety of the best bahn mi and bubble tea — from upscale adaptations to authentic, mom-and-pop gems. More info here.

Grilled By Bike IV – 2:00 pm at Peninsula Park
Grill and chill with the kings of outdoor cooking by bike. No one knows how the food or the ride will turn out but rumor has it there will be hatchet-throwing lessons. More info here.

*FEATURED* – Clever Cycles 10 year anniversary party – 4:00 pm at Clever Cycles (Come at 2:00 for a pre-party ride) (900 SE Hawthorne)
One of Portland’s best bike shops celebrates a decade in business. Clever was a pioneer in the cargo and Dutch bike invasion that has swept America since 2007. They have remained true to their mission of providing the best family and utility bikes, service and advice you can find anywhere. Expect cool bikes, adult beverages, food from Koi Fusion, a raffle, prize giveaway and of course activities for the whole family. More info here.

The Big Lebowski Ride – 6:30 pm at Colonel Summers Park (1801 SE Taylor St)
Join Big Lebowski fans as they re-enact 10 scenes from the classic film. The ride will be short with an emphasis on fun and sharing movie quotes. More info here.

Sunday, June 11th

The Sauvie Shootout – 9:00 am at Ovation Coffee and Tea
Weekly, fast-paced group ride that begins in the Pearl District, goes out to Sauvie, and then climbs the West Hills. Open to everyone and groups will form depending on pace. More info here.

Zumba Ride 5 – 12:00 pm at Peninsula Park
Biking and dancing meet in this fifth annual ride. Wear your dancing clothes and follow expert instructors to stay on form (or not!). Bike. Dance. Repeat. Zumba teachers welcome to show up and lead a few songs. More info here.

Wonder Women Ride – 1:00 pm at Alberta Park (NE 19th and Killingsworth)
Open to all ages and genders, this ride is hosted by the Portland Society. Dressing up as Wonder Woman, “in any interpretation you please” is strongly encouraged. Ride will be a slow-paced 9 miles with stops at parks citywide and ends by watching the movie at Cinemagic on SE Hawthorne. More info here.

Cargo Bike Roll-Call – 2:00 pm at Clinton City Park
Calling all cargo bikers! Roll up and unite with other Portlanders who use their bikes as tools to carry people, groceries, and much more. You’ll gain valuable tips, make new friends, and realize that you live in one of the most cargo-bike loving towns in America. More info here.

Biking to Baseball – 3:00 pm at Salmon Street Fountain
Wear your favorite baseball jersey for a group ride to Lents Park (about 9 miles) to watch a Portland Pickles game. Bring a picnic blanket because general admission tickets are on the grass. There’s transit nearby if you need a lift home after the game. More info here.
