Northeast Portland’s nonprofit bike shop and biking-for-everyone advocacy group is welcoming some respected local bike believers onto its board of directors.
The new aditions represent more than half the organization’s leadership, and it happens to bring the gender split on the Community Cycling Center’s board to seven women and four men — an unusual ratio in a national bike advocacy movement where both the leadership and membership remain overwhelmingly male-dominated.
The new faces include (from left to right in the photos above) organizational consultant Kristin Lensen, Cambia Health Solutions sustainability manager Jackie Yerby, OPAL assistant director Vivian Satterfield, Stoll Berne trial lawyer Keil Mueller, Queta González of the Center for Diversity and the Environment and Metro planner Lake Strongheart McTighe.
They’ll work with Mychal Tetteh, now five months into his job as the cycling center’s CEO and strategic leader, and with Anne Lee, who manages the day-to-day operations as chief operations officer. Tetteh succeeded Alison Graves last fall.
We asked CCC spokeswoman Melinda Musser for some thoughts about the new board members. She wrote in an email:
The new board members represent the Community Cycling Center’s desire to diversify our board with members that reflect our partner communities. They bring to us diverse backgrounds with areas of expertise that will greatly enhance the work that we are doing. Our already talented board is strengthened by our newest members’ backgrounds in community health, diversity consulting, environmental justice, active transportation, and much more. We are excited to welcome them to the Community Cycling Center team.
