Weekend Event Guide (Updated)

Here are some of the events going on during the long weekend. Feel free to let us know about more of what’s going on in the comments.

Friday, September 4th

4:00pm: Carfree Couve Ride
Celebrate Carfree Day in Vancouver, Washington. Meet at the southeast corner of Farragut Park, 7700 N Vancouver Ave, Portland. Ride to the Couve leaves at 5:00pm.

5:30pm: Bike to the Birds: Vaux’s Swift Picnic Ride
Bring a picnic blanket and meet at the west end of the Steel Bridge to ride to view the famous birds fly into the school chimney up in Northwest, with a stop on the way for groceries. Will reschedule for next Friday if it’s wet.

6:30pm: Vegan Dinner Ride
The second installment of VDBR is Friday, Sept. 4. Meet at 6:30 at Colonel Summers Park (at the corner of SE Yamhill and SE 20th) for a fun, social ride to a $5 vegan-friendly dinner spot in town, followed by another stop for drinks and dessert. All eating persuasions welcome.

Saturday, September 5

New Seasons Benefit BBQ for the BTA
New Seasons’ Arbor Lodge location (on N. Interstate at Rosa Parks) will have a yummy BBQ on Saturday and Sunday and ALL proceeds go to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. Show up. Eat. Support biking.

24 HR Velo Vulture
The 24 Hour Velo Vulture is a bicycle scavenger hunt pitting teams of two against a manifest, the other teams, and 86400 seconds.

7:45am: Cape Lookout Camping Trip
Annual Labor Day weekend two-night unsupported bike camping trip hosted by Cycle Wild. Meet at the Hatfield Government Center MAX Station, 100 SW Adams Ave, Hillsboro. Ride leaves at 8:00am sharp.

10:00am: Save Helvetia Bike Ride
A free, recreational bike ride to raise awareness and garner support for the proposal to designate all candidate Urban Reserve areas north of Hwy 26 as Rural Reserves. Meet at 9:30am at the office of Team Estrogen (located at 21350 NW Mauzey Rd in Hillsboro, close to intersection of Cornelius Pass Rd and West Union, just off exit 62B on Hwy 26).

Sunday, September 6th

Stub Stewart Youth Hike-Bike-N-Dash

Head out to the L.L. Stub Stewart State Park for their second annual event for youth K-17. Gentle paved/packed bike course. Groomed hike/run trails.
