I know Sunday Parkways in North Portland starts in a matter of hours, but if you’re just waking up on Sunday morning, here are a few things to remember.
Get out and stretch your legs
The parks (Kenton, Arbor Lodge, and Peninsula) are where most of the action is, but do yourself a favor and go for a stroll or a roll around the entire, 7.5-mile loop route. It’s on the residential streets where you’ll see the amazing community spirit that makes Sunday Parkways so dang special.
Bring your appetite
Don’t pack snacks! There are over 20 local food vendors featuring some of the best grub in the City. So bring some cash and support local businesses while you fuel up for all the activities.
Bring whatever bike you’ve got (or rent one!)
A bike is a great way to experience Sunday Parkways. Don’t let a flat tire or mis-adjusted gears keep you from coming. There will be many bike shops and mechanics at the parks giving free minor repairs. If you don’t have a bike, don’t fret. Portland Bicycle Tours will be at Arbor Lodge Park offering bike rentals.
Did someone say activities?!
There are more things to do than you can imagine. Here are a few highlights:
- AlexSandra’s Vintage Emporium will put on a bike friendly vintage fashion show at Arbor Lodge Park starting at 1:45.
- The Sprockettes, Portland all-female mini-bike dance team, will perform at 1:00 at Peninsula Park.
- Bridge Pedal, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and the City of Portland have teamed up to offer bike riding workshops for kids. Check them out at the tennis courts at Peninsula Park.
- The Northwest Trail Alliance will have a mountain bike skills park set up at Kenton Park.
- Portland artist extraordinaire Brian Borrello (co-creator of the new Zoobomb Pyle monument), will have works set up at the Bryant Pedestrian Bridge.
Follow all the action via Twitter
I’ll be posting updates and photos on our Twitter feed. Also, keep your eyes on the #SundayParkways hashtag on Twitter for updates throughout the day. Here’s the link – Sunday Parkways search on Twitter.
And last but not least, check out the official North Portland Sunday Parkways page on the City of Portland website for the route map and more details.
See you out there!
