The City of Portland Office of Transportation will host the 2008 Portland Transportation Safey Summit next week (Monday, 10/8). The event is a great way to meet local and state transportation planners, policy makers, etc… and get information on many important resources and programs.

PDOT just released the agenda and program. Check it out:

12:00-1:00 p.m. Pre-Summit networking session (optional)

Immediately prior to the start of the Transportation Safety Summit will be a networking session with pizza, fruit, and other refreshments served in Room C on the second floor of the Portland Building.

1:00-1:30 p.m. Presentation – “The state of Portland’s transportation safety”

The Transportation Safety Summit will open with a presentation on the state of Portland’s transportation safety, including a review of benchmarks and accomplishments and an indication of future work. Following the presentation will be two one-hour transportation safety related panel discussions.

1:30-2:30 p.m. Panel discussion – “Recent changes in attitudes and behaviors”

Recent data indicate that increased gas prices combined with a weakening economy have resulted in an unanticipated increase in the number of Portlanders walking, biking, and taking transit as an economic necessity. The purpose of this panel is to raise awareness of these recent changes and begin to explore how these economic changes will impact transportation safety.

Panelists:

2:30-3:30 p.m. Panel discussion – “Portland traffic safety: A public health perspective”

The purpose of this panel is to hear from leaders in Portland’s public health community on how Portland’s traffic safety efforts could benefit from stronger partnerships with public health agencies. To maximize the relevance to all safety partners, PDOT will ask the panelists to focus their presentation on opportunities and challenges related to Portland’s traffic safety efforts.

Panelists:

3:30-4:30 p.m. Networking session and traffic safety information

The networking session will feature cold gelato from Staccato Gelato as participants network and visit tables with information on the following topics:
