on the Springwater Trail.

When the Fahrner family (Todd, Martina, and son Carl) wanted to get away for a little weekend vacation, they did what many other American families do — they packed up their vehicle and set out for the open road.
But unlike most families, the Fahrner’s packed up a pair of Xtracycle-equipped, electric-assisted bicycles for their journey.
While browsing my contacts on Flickr the other day, I came across a great set of photos of their trip. The photos were accompanied by this description:
“193 miles, 13,000′ climbing, 3 riding days, camping loads plus 6-year-old, stokemonkey electric assist on 2 longtails. wonderful.”
For more details on their adventure, browse the photos and stay tuned to the Clever Cycles blog for a detailed write-up (Todd and Martina are two of the four owners of the Clever Cycles bike shop).
You can also ask Martina questions about biking with kids at the Bridge Pedal Health and Wellness Expo tomorrow (Sat, 8/9). She’ll be on hand with a display of various family-biking set-ups.
