Are bikes in your plans for the weekend? If not, you must be crazy because there loads of awesome things going on.

I’m headed out to Fort Stevens State Park with my girls (and my mom!) for the Cycle Oregon Weekend Ride. Lots of families will be there given the great bikeways at that park, it’s sure to be a good time.

Speaking of good times, New Belgium’s Tour de Fat rages on in Seattle this weekend. The Sprockettes are headed up that way in their huge, veggie-oil-powered bus to share their moves with our neighbors to the north.

They’ll be joined on their bus by a huge Portland contingent who will take part in the annual Dead Baby Downhill event and party. Unfortunately I won’t be there to continue my documentation of the bike dance revolution sweeping America. I hear yet another new group, the Bike Belles, has formed in Seattle and this weekend will be their big debut.

Sauvie Island Strawberry Ride
Precious cargo.

Back here in Portland, some folks will be taking advantage of the height of berry season with a ride out to Sauvie Island. Join Exchange Cycle Tours for their Bike to Berry Ride on Saturday and fill your panniers (and your tummy) with locally grown berries and plenty of good times.

Also tomorrow is the Red Bull Flugtag in Waterfront Park. Not a bike-specific event, but it’s sure to attract two-wheelers by the thousands. The BTA will be there to park your bike so get out and enjoy the human-powered flying contraptions and bask in the spectacle.

On Sunday, the Hottest Day of the Year Ride is sure to thrill and satisfy. I’ve been on the last two of these, and everything — from the all-you-can-eat ice cream sundae buffet, to the water fight — is always top-notch and you’re practically guaranteed a good time.

If you like garage sales, join a few friendly folks on the Garage-Saling by Bike ride. Don’t forget to pull your trailer in case a must-have item catches your eye.

What are you doing this weekend? Share your weekend adventures below and I’ll see you back here on Monday for more bike news and views…
