City to hold Platinum award party; will name first winner of ‘Bicycle Friendly Community Award’


The City of Portland has just announced their plans to celebrate the recent designation of Portland as a Platinum-level bicycle friendly community.

The event will be held at City Hall this next Thursday (8/7).

According to an email from PDOT, Along with bike-inspired festivities like a “Platinum fuel pump” that will dispense root beer, a photo exhibition and a Platinum-themed cake, the City will also announce the first-ever recipient of Portland’s, “Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community Award for helping make Portland the #1 Bicycling City in the United States.”

The winner of the award will be the official Grand Marshall in the upcoming Bridge Pedal ride on August 10th.

Mayor Tom Potter will also make the official proclamation of “Bicycle Friendly Community Day” and U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer will be on hand to toast Portland’s success.
