Historic Portland Bike Map (c.1896)
Long before those motorized steel boxes took over our streets, Portland was ruled by bikes. This amazing map (photos here) was created in 1896 and shows a detailed bikeway network, offers pointers for cyclists, and has some fun old advertisements (who knew Meier and Frank used to sell bike clothing?!). At only $5 a piece, they’re a great gift. Purchase it from the BTA Gear store.
2007 Sprockettes Calendar
That mini-bike dance team we all know and love, The Sprockettes are back with their 2nd annual calendar. This year’s edition features some great photographs of the ladies in action and all proceeds support their work. It’s just $10 (includes shipping) and you can buy it via PayPal in the BikePortland Store.

Bike Haiku Stationary – Red Bat Press
from Red Bat Press]
Printmaker Carye Bye (Ms. Red Bat), has really outdone herself with her new Bike Haiku Stationary. Printed in her downtown Portland studio, the $10 set contains 20 letterpressed sheets, 4 haikus, and 10 envelopes. Here’s one I love:
- “tires swing a sweet song
asphalt played like a cello
traction symphony”
