Checking in on my visitor stats

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

It’s been almost a year since I last shared information about my visitor statistics. Given everything that has happened on this site, one year ago seems like ancient history so I figured it was time to reflect on how traffic to this site has grown.

[Monthly visits to BikePortland.org]

Since the beginning of this year, my traffic has increased dramatically from around 25,000 visits in January to about 95,000 visits in August. From June to August alone, the amount of visits nearly doubled!

Besides visits, I also like to look at how many pages are viewed. Since January 2006, there have been about 1.32 millions pages viewed on BikePortland.org. These days the site averages about 7-10,000 pageviews every day.

Traffic stats are fun, but they only tell part of the story. In the world of blogs, one way to assess the credibility and authority of a site is by how many other blogs link to it. A site called Technorati is one of the most trusted sources for ranking blogs. They track over 55 millions blogs from all over the world. BikePortland.org is currently ranked 8,749th which makes this the #1 bike blog in the Technorati blog directory!

So what does all this mean to you? Nothing really. It’s just fun for me to see how this site has grown in the last year. I am also very grateful for all of your insights, feedback, comments and tips. If it wasn’t for my esteemed readers this site would not be what it is today.

I know you’re all busy and there are tons of great resources on the web, so thanks for making BikePortland.org part of your reading habits. If you ever have feedback (good or bad!) or advice please get in touch by using my contact form.

Thanks and keep in touch.
