Portland Bike Forums are up and running

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

If you haven’t already noticed, the Portland Bike Forums are back online!

After I posted a call for help last month I received some advice, donations and technical help. I didn’t get quite enough cash to purchase the forum software I wanted, but I decided to pony up for it anyways…and I’m glad I did.

Then, a reader named Andrew Berkowitz—who works for a web design and marketing company called Sparkplug—stepped in to install the software and he imported all the old posts and user information. Thanks again for your help Andrew!

It took a few weeks, but the Forums are doing great. We’ve got about 100 regular members, many active threads and lots of good advice and information being shared. According to the traffic stats, people view over 10 pages per visit…that means there’s a ton of good info to read.

Most of the good stuff happens in the General Discussions forum. Some hot topics include the “cyclist named James” saga (which has 42 replies so far!), a thread about waving to fellow cyclists, someone complaining about rogue bikers, and people sharing their stories of long commutes.

The new Route Info and Advice forum is also very popular.

The Portland Bike Forums are already a great resource but they rely on your contributions. So whether you have something to share or you’re a newbie looking for help and advice, I encourage you to register and start posting!
