Photo of the year, an airport bike shuttle, and brazen bike theft

Buffered Bike Lane with a bike symbol and arrow pointing forward

With all the craziness around the radio show fiasco I want to lighten things up with some fun tidbits from my inbox.

First, check out the photo below that was forwarded to the Shift email list:

The man on the mini-bike is City Commissioner Sam Adams. He’s clowning around with the Zoobombers in front of City Hall during the Made in Portland Bike show.

I met with a reporter from the Austin American Statesmen this morning to discuss how Portland has become such a bike mecca. I should have just showed her this photo, it says a lot about what makes Portland such a unique bike community.

This next little tidbit was also sent to the Shift list. There’s a budding Portland entrepreneur that has posted a new service on Craigslist. He’s offering a shuttle to the airport…by bike!

Check out this photo of his ride. If anyone takes him up on his offer, I’d love to hear about it.

And from the streets of New York City comes the latest YouTube phenomenon. Check out this video of some guys hacksawing, grinding, and cutting bike locks in broad daylight! They are brazenly stealing bikes and no one even notices (well except one guy). These guys are only doing this to show how rampant and easy bike theft is. They are not thieves.

Keep your eyes open and don’t let this happen in Portland! If you see a bike theft in progress the best thing to do is call 911.
