In addition to delivering dynamic programs that benefit underserved communities, we operate
a full-service bike shop in NE Portland that is staffed by highly experienced mechanics from
diverse cycling backgrounds. Our programs and shop services combined help riders build their
skills and confidence; empower young people to ride to school and adults to ride to work; offer
educational opportunities for teens to earn school credit; and support everyone in riding for
health and recreation. We also collaborate with numerous community partners to generate
pathways to employment and engagement within the growing bicycle movement by training
new educators, leaders, advocates and mechanics.

ABOUT BIKE CAMP
The Bike Camp program, is a week long day camp for kids age 6-16 years old to develop their cycling skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Groups of 12 campers, led by two instructors, ride bikes around the city while visiting parks and destinations of interest. Campers experience riding on the road, navigating with maps, and basic bicycle maintenance. In addition, campers develop self-confidence, independence, and the social and communication skills to work well in a team environment. Specialty camps include food cart camps, mechanics camp, and girls camps.

JOB SUMMARY
In addition to taking on leadership and administrative tasks, the camp supervisor will fill in as an instructor as needed. They will be responsible for weekly check-ins, meetings with instructors, and attending weekly meetings with the camp manager to report on the performance of the instructors and communicate support needs. They will also be the main point of contact for our partner visits during the camp season. The camp supervisor will gain experience supporting and supervising instructors throughout the summer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supporting Instructors
• Sub for instructors as need
• Assist with ongoing trainings throughout the season
• Supervise and support staff with troubleshooting group management, logistical, and conflict management
• Routine individual and small group check-ins with instructors
• Ride with instructors to evaluate and support instructor growth
• Support instructors fulfill curriculum requirements for each camp age group
• Support instructors with partner visits during throughout season

Camp Operations
• Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safe riding protocol during camp program
• Drive support vehicle for program support such as camper pick-ups and supply delivery
• Assist with daily check-in and check-out
• Assist with parent communication
• Assist with prepping materials and spaces for camper
• Complete other administrative duties as needed
• Represent the Community Cycling Center when interacting with parents or community members

QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS
REQUIRED
• Experience in administrative roles with a comparable youth development or camp program
• Skilled in work planning, lesson planning, curriculum development, creation of manuals
• Independent and creative problem solver
• Experience and willingness to serve a diverse staff, participants, and community partners to align with our organizational mission
• Ability to observe and assess staff and camper behavior, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate management techniques
• Effective verbal and written communicator with co-instructor, campers, families, and supervisors
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and G Suite
• Ability to ride a bicycle 10 miles per day*
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds*

• Driver’s License required
• Criminal background check required
• Valid CPR/First Aid certification required prior to the first day of training

PREFERRED
• Spanish proficiency
• Educational and/or personal experience with youth in Title 1 schools, mixed income housing, communities of color and/or immigrant communities
• Experience leading group bike rides with adults and/or youth
• Basic knowledge of bicycles and their components

SCHEDULE
• Pre-season work – 32 hours per week in May
• Camp season – 40 hours per week from June – August
• Post-season work – 32 hours per week in September
• Working hours during camp are 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday
• Bike Camp instructor training June 3 – 7
• In-service training on July 12
• No camp on July 4 & 5
