Bend Cyclocross weekend 2-26
It’s that spooky time of year again and that means many Portlanders will spend the weekend in Bend for the annual Cross Crusade craziness.

If you love costume rides, this is your weekend. With Halloween-themed rides galore, you should have no trouble finding a ride to let your freaky flag fly.

Friday, October 30th

Portland Bike Party – 7:00 pm at Old Town Pizza (226 NW Davis)
Join in the Halloween spirit with this group ride from downtown to a party on Mississippi Ave. More info here.

Saturday, October 31st

Cross Crusade #4 – All day at Old Mill District in Bend
The first of a double-header weekend at the fabulous Old Mill District venue in Bend. Put on your costume and race this legendarily fun cyclocross event. Plan to spend the whole weekend and don’t miss the big party Saturday night and another full day of racing on Sunday! More info here.

Stub Stewart State Park Trail Building Day – 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at State Park Welcome Center
Head out to the beautiful Vernonia area and help NW Trail Alliance work with land managers to build and maintain the excellent trails at Stub Stewart State Park. A perfect way to work off all the candy calories you’ll consume later in the evening. More info here.

Gravitate to Gresham with Portland Wheelmen Touric Club – 9:30 am at Gateway Transit Center
Get to know the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club at this introductory ride. Expect an 18-mile route that’s perfect for beginning/novice riders looking for a new group to ride with. More info here.

Biking About Architecture – 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Tula Bakery (4943 NE MLK Jr. Blvd)
This month’s architecture ride will focus on the interesting houses of inner North Portland. Ride leader (and residential architecture buff) Jenny Fosmire will lead you on a route that includes three carfree bridges, pocket parks, the Willamette Bluff and more. Expect an eight mile ride at a slow and social pace. More info here.

Trick or Treat on Alberta St. – 2:00 to 3:30 pm at Holladay City Park (NE 11th and Holladay)
Looking for something fun to do with kids on Halloween before it gets too dark and spooky? Join the folks from Kidical Mass for this group ride from the Lloyd District area up to Alberta. Ride will end at Green Bean Books and trick-or-treating will commence at Alberta Street merchants. More info here (FB).

Trick or Treat Ride – 5:00 pm at Doll Asylum (6315 N Michigan St)
Pedal in and around scary street and haunted places on this ride put on by Puddlecycle. Meets at the super-creepy but fun Doll Asylum house in north Portland then rolls down to southeast for a finale at the Lone Fir Cemetery. More info here (FB).

Charge of the Light Brigade! – 7:00 pm at parking lot below MLK Jr. Blvd and 499 SE Caruthers
Light up your bike for this Halloween-themed mobile dance party ride. Ride leader Scott B. will lead you through “scary alleys, parks and other creepy places”. Ride starts with a Thriller Dance Party. More info here and on Facebook.

Sunday, November 1st

Cross Crusade #5 – All day at Old Mill District in Bend
If you didn’t party too hard the night before, there’s some excellent racing to be had. This course is known for fun surprises and the venue is very spectator-friendly. More info here.

Premium Rush Movie Night – 5:00 pm at Bike Farm (1810 NE First Ave)
Come out and watch this fun bike movie and chill with friends at Bike Farm. More info here.
