ODOT, Kenton mark completion of North Denver Avenue area improvements
The Oregon Department of Transportation is inviting neighbors to help celebrate the completion of its Oregon 99W: N. Victory Blvd. – N. Argyle St. Project during a short event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 the Paul Bunyan Plaza in Kenton, 8433 N. Interstate Ave.
During the event, participants will hear about the project from ODOT and neighborhood leaders. Project staff will then provide walking and bike tours of the newly improved facilities.
“We want to thanks the neighbors and local businesses for their patience and cooperation during the construction,” said ODOT Region 1 Manager Rian Windsheimer. “These improvements will contribute to the growing vitality of Kenton and will create a safer experience in the corridor for all users,” he said.
The improvements include:
- Realignment of the intersection of North Schmeer Road and North Denver Avenue to provide safer turns and more efficiency for southbound travelers.
- A new signal and crosswalks at the North Schmeer Road/North Denver Avenue intersection for safer pedestrian crossings.
- Resurfacing of the Denver Avenue Bridge to extend its life.
- New separated bike lanes, sidewalks and a shared-use path connecting to the Columbia Slough 40-Mile Loop Trail.
- Making the one-way undercrossing from North Denver Avenue to Schmeer Road into a two-way shared-use path.
- Replace the railings on the North Denver Avenue Viaduct and Columbia Slough Bridge.
- The project also will include a gateway sign for the Kenton Neighborhood to be installed at the Paul Bunyan Plaza. Design drawings will be available at the event.
