Highs around 80, lows in the 60s and partly cloudy — now that’s what I call Portland summer. Which makes it extra perfect for an event like Bridge Pedal. Whatever we’re up to, let’s enjoy it.

Friday, Aug. 7

Portland Bicycle Studio Mountain Bike Demo – noon-5 p.m. at Skibowl on Mount Hood
Test ride new Giant-brand mountain bikes on the mountain Friday and Saturday. Includes trail access and a $20 all-day lift ticket. (Also see below.) Shuttle available. More info here.

Grill by Bike – 5 p.m. at Laurelhurst Park (3700 SE Ankeny St)
The fire-fueled bike-fun club meets for a ride to a live taping of the Sprocket Podcast’s 250th episode. Meet with grillables at the north-central corner of the park and get ready to ride on fire. More info here.

Sprocket Podcast Episode 250 LIVE! – 7 p.m. at Velo Cult (1969 NE 42nd Ave)
Our friends at the Sprocket talk show are inviting one and all to a live taping of their 250th episode at Velo Cult. There will be catchphrase bingo and interviews with Portland legends. More info here.

Saturday, Aug. 8

PUBLIC Bikes Grand Opening Party – 11 a.m. Saturday at PUBLIC Portland Showroom, 828 NW 23rd Ave
Celebrate the SF-based city bike retailer’s arrival in Portland with free food and drinks, music, in-store-only deals and a raffle. More info here.

Electric Merman – 8 p.m. at Cascade Brewing (939 SE Belmont)
“Let’s ride bikes and dunk ourselves in water at the end.” Ride at 9 after sour beer consumption and get ready to log miles. Bring lights, shimmers and music as desired. More info here.

NWTA Stub Stewart Freeride Workparty – 8:45 a.m.-5 p.m. at Stub Stewart State Park
Gather at Welcome Center parking lot and caravan to project site at 9 a.m. to improve the mountain biking trails. More info here.

Oregon Fair Trade TPP Protest – 6:15 a.m. at Tilikum Crossing east landing (SE Tilikum Way and SE 2nd Place)
A bike-mounted protest of the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership’s “devastating” impacts on the environment and climate, to coincide with U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer’s own bike trip across the bridge. Stay to distribute hand-outs to Bridge Pedal participants. More info here.

Providence Bridge Pedal – various morning start times along SW Naito Parkway downtown
Portland’s biggest local paid ride of the year will include the first public roll across Tilikum Crossing and back — not to mention the iconic trip over the top deck of the Fremont Bridge. More info here.

Champagne Bike Ride – 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Fort Vancouver Artillery Barracks (600 East Hathaway Rd​., Vancouver WA)
A noncompetitive event for women cyclists that features 20- or 35-mile routes. Participants can celebrate the end of the ride with Champagne and mimosas. Same-day registration $50-$60. More info here.

Bike-Powered Harvesting Party with Portland Fruit – 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (3880 SE Brooklyn St)
A bike-powered neighborhood-focused harvesting of public pears and plums. Free registration required; half of slots reserved for low-income residents. More info here.

Vancouver Courthouse Criterium – 11:55 a.m.-8 p.m. at 1211 Daniels St, Vancouver, WA
The OBRA Criterium Championship in the heart of Vancouver. Medals to top three in each category. Day of race registration opens 11 a.m. and closes 11:45. More info here.

Vanilla Workshop Garage Sale – noon-6 p.m. at 1711 SE Powell St.
“BBQ, beer, high-fives and screaming deals on frames, wheels, components and apparel.” With products from Breadwinner, Sugar Wheelworks and Vanilla Workshop.

People’s Preview of Tilikum Crossing – 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Tilikum Crossing
TriMet’s beautiful new bridge across the Willamette opens temporarily to people walking and biking — or at least trying to bike among the throngs of selfie-takers. More info here.

Dead Freeways Ride – 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at South Park Blocks near PSU’s Lincoln Hall (900 SW Market St)
What if…Portland built all the freeways it planned? This classic 10-mile ride with local historian Shawn Granton follows the routes of unbuilt or removed highways and ends with food, drinks and talk. More info here.
