This menu of delicious rides and events is lovingly brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Well hello there beautiful! (I’m talking to the weather, not you. Sorry. But you’re beautiful too!)

The sun will be out with a vengeance for this first bike weekend of Pedalpalooza* and I hope you are able to take advantage of it. But if you think the big, three-week bike fun fest is the only game in town this weekend, thing again. You’ll find a few tasty morsels in this week’s guide that you won’t find on the Pedalpalooza calendar.

*Pedalpalooza note! From this Friday to Sunday alone there are over 40 rides on the calendar. I’ve chosen just one ride from each day for this week’s guide, so please check out the full official schedule on the Shift website.**

Friday, June 5th

The Bicycle Men – 7:30 pm at the Winningstad Theater (1111 SW Broadway Ave)
Head out on the town for a bike-themed bit of musical theater! The Bicycle Men is a comedy based around a “hapless American cyclist” who breaks down while cycling through a small French village. Shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More info here.

PEDALPALOOZA: Diablo’s Wild Ride – 8:00 pm from Devil’s Point (5305 SE Foster)
Diablo is back and he’s ready to rock Pedalpalooza like only Diablo can. Follow him (it’s impossible not too on his decorated bike and massive sound system) for a devil-themed ride that have you partying in the street into the wee hours. More info here.

Saturday, June 6th

Hammer Velo Criterium – All day on Swan Island
A classic crit course that offers lots of speed and cornering. But wait! There’s more… Race organizers have partnered with Let’s Race Bikes to offer free entries for beginner women. All you have to do is email hello@letsracebikes.com for your free entry into the Category 5 race. More info here (FB).

PEDALPALOOZA: Kid Speed – 10:00 am Salmon Street Fountain
Time for the kids to take over. This ride is meant for wee tykes on bikes. It will only go on sidewalks and the paths around the Eastbank Esplanade with stops at every fun diversion possible (fountains, playgrounds, maybe even the police horse stable). More info here.

Siouxon with a View – 8:00 am at the Upper Siouxon Trailhead (in Washington – Google Map)
Looking to explore some fantastic mountain biking trails just an hour and fifteen minute drive northeast of Portland? This free group ride is hosted by Oregon Endurance Mountain Biking. They’ve put together a challenging 22-mile loop with over 5,000 of climbing. They say you can expect, “flowy singletrack, ripping descents, challenging rocky areas, creek crossings, and some of the most beautiful waterfalls and clear pools around.” On a hot day, this sounds perfect! More info here.

Pioneer Century – All day at Clackamas County Fairgrounds (694 NE 4th Avenue in Canby)
This is a ride you’ve just got to cross off your list — or do again to experience the great new routes! The Pioneer not only ventures onto some of the most unforgettable roads in the state, it is also a big fundraiser for the oldest riding club in town: The Portland Wheelmen (and women). I’ve done this a few times and can recommend it. More info here.

Sunday, June 7th

#MyHour – 9:30 am ride from Rapha office – Hour attempts start at 9:50 am and 11:00 am at Alpenrose Velodrome (6149 SW Shattuck)
Rapha-sponsored rider and Tour de France super-champion Sir Bradley Wiggins will try to break the world hour record and Rapha has partnered with the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association for some local inspiration. While “Wiggo” attempts the world record, two local studs will try to break the Alpenrose hour record. Cheer them on and watch Wiggins’ attempt on the big screen. More info here.

PEDALPALOOZA: Grilled by Bike – 3:00 pm at 3700 SE Ankeny
When this ride shoves off it will be over 90 degrees — perfect weather for a bit of grillin’ and chillin’ with cool people on bikes. Hosted by none other than the Grilled By Bike Club who promises, “Daring feats and questionable meats.” More info here (FB).

Bike Back the Night – 6:30 pm at Colonel Summers Park (SE 20th and Belmont)
This free annual ride is hosted by the Portland Women’s Crisis Line and it raises awareness of their efforts to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Show up early to make signs and super hero capes! More info here./
