Weekend Event Guide: A big sale, more ‘cross, and baked goods

eventguidelead
A historic moment for Portland Parks happening Saturday at Gateway Green.

Welcome to your menu of weekend rides and events, lovingly brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Baby it’s cold outside. And windy (and a bit frozen) too. But as luck would have it, the forecast actually calls for clear and sunny skies for the weekend. That means it’s time to bundle up and brave the elements!

Whether you’re still motoring through ‘cross season or just looking for an excuse to eat donuts with friends old and new, we’ve got another great line-up for you to choose from.

Friday, November 14th

Castelli Sample Sale – 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at 1040 NE 44th Ave #1
Initial reviews are in and this big warehouse sale is awesome. Having companies like Castelli based here in Portland is one of the many fringe benefits of living in America’s Bike Capital. At this sale you can get smoking deals on all types of great bike gear — including winter riding essentials and vintage/random stuff you can’t find anywhere else. More info here (FB).

Saturday, November 15th

Inaugural Corvallis Cross Classic and NWSSCX – All day at Peoria Gardens (32332 Peoria Rd SW in Albany)
Head south to Albany for what looks like a great new race. And, as a huge bonus, be a part of the first ever NWSSCX – that’s a single speed race with championship stakes for women only. More info on the women’s single speed race here (FB) and the Cross Classic here.

Gateway Green Community Cross – 9:00 am at Gateway Green (north of Halsey where the I-205 and I-84 meet)
This is your chance to make history by watching and/or participating in the first-ever event at what will soon be Portland’s first official bike park. This event is a fundraiser for the Friends of Gateway Green, a non-profit group raising money to design and build the park. More info here.

Coffee and Donuts Ride – 9:45 am at Irving Park (NE 7th and Fremont)
Join this free, guided bike ride and tour great doughnut shops in northeast Portland. Part of PBOT’s By Cycle ride series and led by inimitable biking doughnut expert Timo Forsberg. The 13-mile loop is a great way to explore neighborhoods and get your bearings if you’re new to town. More info here.

Castelli Sample Sale – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at 1040 NE 44th Ave #1
Same as Friday’s event. See above for more info.

Marsee Bakery Ride – 10:30 am at Wilshire Park (NE Skidmore and 36th)
Join our friends at the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club for this 30-mile jaunt from northeast Portland to Sellwood where treats at Marsee Bakery await. More info here.

Bob and Dave’s Killer Adventure – 1:00 pm “sharp” at 3300 SE Woodward St.
Part of Puddlecycle’s winter riding series, this short ride will end up at Bob’s Red Mill and Dave’s Killer Bread in Milwaukie. Bring room for cargo after you stock up on supplies and bring an appetite for a Sin Dawg feast! More info here.

Sunday, November 16th

Cross Crusade Finale at Barton Park – All day in Barton, Oregon
The final race has arrived and the series winners will be crowned. The Barton course is a classic that will throw out all types of nasty tricks at racers. Come for the racing, stay for the fun and revelry that the Crusade is known for. More info here.
