Portlanders who love all things bike, you have a decision to make: There are three cool events tonight that are dueling for your attention.
I hope you can work them into your plans…
The first one is a launch party for the latest issue of Bicycle Times magazine. Why is a magazine that’s based in Pittsburgh, having this event in Portland? Because Bicycle Times’ Online Editor Adam Newman moved here a few months ago. That, and it’s just a good excuse to have fun and put a spotlight on a great magazine.
Head over to Velo Cult (1969 NE 42nd) from 5 to 9 pm tonight for free beer (Base Camp Brewing), a prize raffle, and “radness.”
Then, on the other side of town…
West End Bikes (1111 SW Stark) is hosting a trunk show for urban fashion brands Parker Dusseau and Osloh Jeans (who boldly proclaims to make “the perfect bicycle jeans”). Both of those companies make clothes that work well for cycling — but that don’t make you look like a “cyclist.” West End is co-owned by Mark Ontiveros, who is one of the foremost bike fashion experts in the bike industry (not to mention a snazzy dresser himself).
The West End event won’t be just about fashion though, they’ve invited a rep from the BTA and the City of Portland in for a panel discussion about “urban cycling, city planning, and apparel design.” Expect free beer from Lagunitas Brewing and 10% of sales to benefit the BTA.
And last but not least is a town hall with Oregon State Senator Michael Dembrow. The reason we’re highlighting this event is that it is focused on “82nd Ave Opportunities.” Here’s more from Dembrow’s office:
“East Portland legislators will host a Town Hall on 82nd Ave. Opportunities. The event will include a presentation from ODOT on their current planning process for an 82nd Ave. transportation study, information about transferring 82nd Ave. from the state to the city of Portland, and an update on potential funding sources for improvements along 82nd. With the 2015 legislative session approaching, now is a great time to get plugged in.”
Other hosts include House Reps Alissa Keny-Guyer and Barbara Smith Warner. Expect a public comment period and free coffee. Event is from 6:30 to 8 pm at PCC Southeast Center Community Hall (2305 SE 82nd Ave)
Our News Editor Michael Andersen will be at the town hall and I’m hoping to stop by one or both of the other events. How about you?
