Welcome to your menu of weekend rides and events, lovingly brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Despite the cooler (and maybe wet) weather predicted, this recent warm weather has gotten us all in such a bike-riding mood that I don’t think it’ll be enough to keep anyone off their bikes. And it’d be a shame if you didn’t ride, given the very cool events that await you. Starting this afternoon with a tour of local small-press printing studios and continuing through Sunday with a tour of wetlands and wildlife on Beaverton’s Fanno Creek Trail.

Have fun out there!

Friday, May 16th

Printdustrial Studio Tour By Bike – 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Stumptown Printers (2293 N Interstate Ave)
Part of the Printdustrial celebration, this tour will be led by none other than Carye Bye, a maker, author and printer with over 10 years of experience in Portland’s small-press printing industry. The ride begins at Stumptown Printers, the shop that has printed many bike event posters over the years. From there, you’ll make five other stops and end up at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) for some socializing and free beer and snacks. As a bonus, each rider will get a passport to stamp at each stop which can be turned in for raffle tickets! More info here.

National Bike to Work Day Bike Ride – 4:15 pm, meets at east side of Pettygrove Park (map)
Join our friends at PBOT for this traditional ride in honor of National Bike to Work Day. After a social jaunt around the city, they’ll end with a happy hour from 5-6:00 at Bambuza in the South Waterfront district (3682 SW Bond Ave).

Reach the Beach – Start time is from 6:00 to 7:30 am at Conestoga Middle School (12250 Conestoga Drive, Beaverton)
Many people consider this the official start to the summer riding season. There are four start locations, with the Portland route taking riders 104 miles from Beaverton to Cape Kiwanda on the Oregon Coast. If a big century is too much for you, there are 55 and 80 mile options too. This is a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. More info here.

Bike Day at Whole Foods Market – 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Whole Foods Laurelhurst (2825 E Burnside)
Whole Foods’ annual Bike Day will feature fresh fruit smoothies via the Bicycle Transportation Alliance’s smoothie bike, live music, and vendors. North St. Bags will be on hand to help promote the Bag Drive Program, a collaboration with the Community Cycling Center. And bring an appetite because they’ll be grilling hamburgers too.

There won’t be any barriers and it’s almost entirely flat. The organizer says, “Think of it as Portland’s mini-version of the Paris-Roubaix, sans cobblestones.” Come for the racing, stay for the great food and drinks and big prize raffle.
